Parents: A Will with a Guardianship Clause is Important

This one is for the parents: Have you considered who will care for and raise your children should you be unable to do so? This is why a will is so important.

It’s a tough conversation that I have with my clients, and it’s a necessary one.

In my culture, we name God parents for our children. This could be a family member or even a best friend. We formally ask if they would be willing to care for our child should we be unable to do so… and most of the time it stops at the verbal confirmation.

I urge you to take it a step further.

When creating your will, make sure you have a guardianship clause which allows you to designate the individual or individual(s) who will raise your children in your absence.

Like I said before, the best gift you can give your loved ones is the gift of knowledge.
